Why Haneul Exists
Every journey is different.
Every story matters.
Every Korean adoptee’s journey is unique.
Some have reunited with birth family. Others are still searching for answers. Some feel deeply connected to Korea, while others are exploring that connection for the first time.
Questions of identity, belonging, family, culture, and heritage can look different for every adoptee — but no one should have to navigate those questions alone.
Haneul was created to provide a welcoming place where adoptees can connect, share experiences, learn from one another, and find support wherever they may be on their journey.

A Journey That Became
A Shared Mission
Haneul was born from a personal journey of reconnection, discovery, and belonging.
Adopted from Korea and raised in New England, I spent much of my life navigating the space between two cultures.
Reconnecting with my birth family in Korea opened a new chapter — one that deepened my understanding of identity, heritage, and belonging.
Along the way, I discovered something many adoptees understand: some parts of the journey can feel isolating, even when we are surrounded by people who care about us.
Haneul was created to help build the kind of community I wished I had earlier in my own journey — a place where adoptees can connect, share experiences, support one another, and feel understood.
The journey that brought me home became the inspiration for building a place where others could feel at home too.

As relationships are formed and stories are shared, we hope to create opportunities for Korean adoptees to connect, explore identity, reconnect with heritage, and support one another.
The future of Haneul will not be shaped by one person alone. It will be shaped by the people who gather beneath it, the friendships that are formed, and the stories that continue to unfold.
